About the Project
The Greenwood Name Study project serves as a collaborative platform to collect information on the Greenwood] name. The hope is that other researchers like you will join the study to help make it a valuable reference point for other genealogists who are researching or have an interest in the Greenwood name.
As a One Name Study, this project is not limited to persons who are related biologically. Individual studies can be used to branch out the research into specific methods and areas of interest, such as geographically (England Greenwood's), by time period (18th Century Greenwood's), or by topic (Greenwood DNA, Greenwood Occupations, Greenwood Statistics). These studies may also include a number of family branches which have no immediate link with each other. Some researchers may even be motivated to go beyond the profile identification and research stage to compile fully sourced, single-family histories of some of the families they discover through this name study project.

I would like to join the Greenwood Name Study. I've traced my Greenwood family line back to the early 1800's into West Yorkshire County England and the trail gets really cloudy. My 3rd great grandfather was James Greenwood who married Alice Pickard, this is mentioned in the Greenwood Genealogies 1154-1914 book in the "Later Arrivals" section. He migrated here (USA - Philadelphia) in 1880's. My 2nd great grandfather (Frederick W. G.) came over here in 1888 (abt) and got married, had a child, then a year later died. That's where our family history remained a mystery until I took it up a few months ago.
This book mentions his (James G.) father and mother are Paul and (Sutcliff) Greenwood but I think this could be a mistake. I had help finding their marriage certificate and it says his father is James not Paul.
They are all from in and around the Bradford Yorkshire area, and there are many others with the same name(s) so it hasn't been easy to connect everything.
